DR ARUN.J SANYAL. M.B.B.S., MD – PRESIDENT, CHAIRMAN & CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER
Dr Sanyals specialist medical area is chronic liver disease and its outcomes. He is the former Chair of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, VCU Medical Center, Richmond, VA; Executive Director, Education Core, Clinical Center for Translational Research, VCU. He has served as a chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) NASH Research Network and is the current Chair of the Liver Study Section at NIH. He was a founding member of the American Board of Internal Medicine committee for Advanced Hepatology, and served as DDW chair for liver programming and on the World Health Organization (WHO) advisory committee for viral hepatitis. Prof. Sanyal is past president of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease (AASLD) (2010), where he served for many years. He has published over 250 scientific papers on his research into liver diseases, written textbooks, and his research has led to recommendations related to variceal hemorrhage, ascites, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy and NASH. He has developed practice guidelines of various national societies.
DR REBECCA CAFFREY. PhD, MBA, CLP – CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Dr. Caffrey is a seasoned biotechnology executive and entrepreneur who has worked in and helped launch biotechnology startups for over 15 years. She has worked with startups in the US, UK, and Qatar and has secured $20M in funding for them. For the last 3 years, Dr. Caffrey has served on the VCU Commercialization Advisory Panel, and as Entrepreneur in Residence she evaluates new technologies for commercial potential for VCU’s Innovation Gateway. She has previously held executive leadership positions in Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Metabolon, Asterand, Target Discovery, Inc., Ciphergen Biosystems, and Miltenyi Biotec (AmCell). She earned her doctorate in Immunology from the VCU School of Medicine in 1998 and subsequently earned MBA’s from Columbia University and UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Dr. Caffrey has published many scientific articles in peer reviewed journals, and is an inventor on over 20 pending patent applications. She is a native of Richmond, VA.
JONATHAN MARIONEAUX. BS, MS (cand.), LAT, CITI-GLP, RQAP (cand.) – CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Mr. Marioneaux has over 5 years’ experience managing setup, maintenance, and employee training for regulatory compliance in Environmental Health and Safety in both public institutions and industry. He previously worked in the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at Health Diagnostic Laboratory, a private Company with over 800 employees. At HDL he implemented all health and environmental safety programs, developed employee training materials, maintained documentation, inspected laboratories and audited records to ensure regulatory compliance at the state and federal level, and developed and implemented emergency response plans. He worked as an Environmental Health and Safety Assistant while earning his Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and minor in public health. He is also undertaking an MSC at VCU. He has been appointed to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) that approves contract research protocols. He has developed the critical body of SOPs for regulatory agency approvals (GLP, AAALAC, and governmental agencies).
WILLIAM DAUGHTRY. MS, MBA, – INTERIM CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Mr Daughtrey has had a successful 35 plus year business career as a management consultant and as a senior executive.He was Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Dominion Resources Innovation Center from 2012 until mid-2015. He was Group Managing Partner of Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC – PriceWaterhouseCoopers), COO of the Carilion Biomedical Institute and President of Princeton?Associates. During his tenure as president of an electronics manufacturing firm, and CEO of a specialty truck manufacturing company, he focused on strategic positioning, improving profitability, and regaining market share in selected market segments. Mr. Daughtrey has served on the Boards of Directors of both private and public companies, including Optek Technology, a public Company in Dallas, TX. Daughtrey holds both a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Master of Science in Nuclear Physics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Connecticut.
DR PIERRE BEDOSSA. MD, PhD – CHIEF PATHOLOGY ADVISOR
Dr Bedossa is a Professor of Pathology at the University Paris-Diderot, France. He is currently Head of the Department of Pathology, Physiology and Nuclear Medicine at the Groupe Hospitalier Paris Nord. He is Chairman and Head of the Department of Pathology at Beaujon Hospital, Paris FRANCE. He is specialized in liver pathology. He is the leader of the METAVIR group and of the FLIP pathology consortium. He has developed new scoring systems in chronic hepatitis and NAFLD. From 2001 to 2013, he was appointed as director of the research unit “pathophysiology of liver diseases “(CNRS) and team leader of “cirrhosis and liver cancer group” at the Center for Biomedical Research, INSERM U773, Paris, France. He was a member of the editorial board of Journal of Hepatology (1991-1996), Hepatology (2001-2006), Journal of Pathology (since 2002-2010) and Associate editor of Virchows Archiv of Pathology (2003-2012). He has published more than 390 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 16 book chapters. Pierre Bedossa is the current president of the European Society of Pathology.
